Nottingham Forest v Malmö and past encounters. The two clubs have a historical link, also competing in Forest's previous European adventure in the mid-90s European competition, but it is the premier competition final from 1979 that connects these teams, with the groundbreaking transfer Trevor Francis scoring the winner of a largely forgettable match to secure historic victory for the the English club.

It's also interesting to reflect upon Malmö, who became the pioneering and only Swedish club to reach the final under English manager Bob Houghton.
The current fixture is a very different to that peak, closer perhaps to the Uefa Cup first-round tie between Forest and Malmö in 1995-96. Forest are absolutely buzzing after thrashing Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday, while Malmö have been inactive since last month following the end of the Swedish league season. The general expectation is on the English side tonight.
